Over the past month our world, country, state, city along with our daily personal and professional lives have been disrupted due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. It is only natural for fear, and anxiety of the unknown to set in.  In particularly we have seen the recent data on the increased number of positive cases in Wisconsin and the rise in deaths in the African American community in Milwaukee.

While this indeed is concerning, we want to ensure that we receive an understanding of COVID-19 and its impact in our community and hear from our expert public health official along with healthcare professionals who are working on the front lines in addressing this public health crisis to gain insight, education, resources around messaging, and next steps.

TOMORROW April 9, we are hosting a live virtual discussion featuring:

City of Milwaukee Health Commissioner, Dr. Jeanette Kowalik

Dr. Eve Hall, President & CEO, Milwaukee Urban League

Healthcare Professionals, and Members of the Milwaukee Urban League Young Professionals:

    Jackie Oraedu, Physician Assistant

    LaRonda Joyner, Registered Nurse

    Dr. Lyah Holmes, Nurse Practitioner

Understanding the Impact of COVID-19 in Milwaukee

    Thursday, April 9, 2020 | 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM CST

Spending most days at home isn't always ideal, but this will be our new norm for a while. No matter, there's a lot that can be done over the next few days and even weeks to get yourself ahead of life's responsibilities while having plenty of fun as well. The National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP) Programs Committee presents, Social Distancing Bingo!

    Here are the rules:

    1. Share on all of your social media platforms using the hashtag #NULYPBingo. Tag NULYP as we will re-posting and sharing.

    2. Challenge YP members, friends, and family. Tag at least 5 people and encourage them to tag others as well.

    3. Check in on your network often. Once you complete your squares throughout the activity, mark it with a check mark or any other identifying label, and upload to your social media platforms.

    4. Have fun! Even though there isn't a prize, this is a fun activity to interact with your network while staying at home over the next few weeks.

NULYP Bingo will be running until Monday, April 20th. Please note, you don't have to engage with social media if you don't want to. You can still stay engage with challenging your network in private.  Ready, Set, Bingo!

Wisconsin has now seen multiple confirmed cases of COVID-19. And with more testing facilities online, we can expect to see even more cases. Identifying cases allows DHS and our local partners to move quickly to isolate a case and possibly contain spread of the virus.

You can help do that by following basic hygiene practices. Wash your hands with soap and water, cover your coughs, and if you are sick - stay home.

For more information refer to the WI Department of Health Services or the CDC for the latest updates.
